French conversation on CD sample: Maurice and the holocaust
Maurice explores the roots of the Vichy/Nazi collaboration and touches on a (very) old beef with the English
In an interview, you never know what is going to happen. Here, the journalist asks Maurice if we really know why the Vichy government ended up arresting foreign-born Jews and handing them over to the Nazis.
Maurice is a historian, so he starts out with a response that any historian might have, but then he goes on to talk about his personal experience. He ends by contrasting his boyhood patriotism (and hatred of the English!) with the thought of what might have been if his father's requests for French citizenship had been granted.
